My proposal was astonishing, awesome and simply amazing. I am still looking for another ‘A’ word to tell you how I felt about that day. Forgive me for being too forward, my name is Ada and my fiancé’s name is Adeboye. So now you can see why I am all about the A’s. We had dated for about a year; I wasn’t seriously looking at getting engaged that soon as I was just getting to know him. I knew he was my soul mate and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, but on his part I was very sceptical. He wasn’t talking about marriage and was very busy with the business he was setting up. I work with the government and had my fashion designing company that I was setting up. Marriage wasn’t really on the cards, especially in a relationship that was only a year old.
One day I was at the office when he called to tell me that he had finally got the approval for contract he had been chasing. Trust me now, I was screaming all over the office, this contract was the deal breaker for him, not that he was poor, but it was what would change his life for the better, so you can understand my excitement. He told me he wanted us to celebrate. We met up for dinner at a very posh restaurant in Ikeja thereafter we retired to his house. He talked about how he would start building his house with the profits he makes from the contract. My Adeboye can plan eh! I had to tell him to calm his horses because he had to execute the project first, he looked at me, smiled and said “Indeed you are a wise woman and I want to spend the rest of my life with you”. I just laughed I wasn’t if he was joking or not.
Few months later I was at my fashion house, showing my tailors designs for clothes I wanted them to sew for a client when my phone rang. It was my Adeboye calling to tell me they have executed half of the project and the second installment had been released to him. I was very happy and started praying for him, he laughed and said he wanted me to go somewhere with him during the weekend. I told him I couldn’t wait and would see him then. If only I had known!
Saturday morning came and my sister said she needs me to accompany her to the salon. I told I had a date with Adeboye but she said she doesn’t care. My sister is quite spoilt. We went to the salon and I used the opportunity to have a manicure and pedicure done. From there, I went to see Adeboye. When I got to the location, I found it was an art gallery. I was already excited; he knows the way I love art. He showed me around and asked which painting I wanted, I told him the one I really liked was expensive, he smiled and said I should point to it. As I turned, he went down on one knee and I just started screaming. When I calmed down a bit, he was able to finally ask me to be his wife. I said yes and he slipped on the nicest ring I had ever seen. I said a small prayer in my heart for my sister who convinced me to go to the salon.
